Get the Photos You Really Want…. Albany, NY High School Senior Photographer

Spring of High School Seniors  and Juniors is an exciting time.  The Seniors are wrapping up their last year, and preparing to head off to college in the fall.  Juniors are looking forward to be in that “Senior” class!  Most people can probably look back with great memories from this point in their lives.  So much is happening, many transitions – and really discovering who you are. Custom Senior portraits are
a fabulous way to memorialize this stage!  A handful of students from high schools in and around the Albany, NY area have participated in my Photo Rep Program for Senior Portraits.  The biggest goal of these sessions is to show students and families what senior portraits really can be!  Multiple locations, clothing changes, incorporation of interests, sports, hobbies – all elements that create a collection of images showcasing students at this very point in their lives.  You just can not get that with 10 minutes in a studio, wearing the same thing all of your other classmates have worn!!  Celebrate this time in your life, or your child’s life.  You’ll be glad you did….
Inquire today about scheduling a Custom Senior Portrait Session.

Let It Be All About You…

Let It Be All About You… – Albany, NY High School Senior Portrait Photographer
The 2010 High School Senior Photo Rep. program is off and running!  I have a handful of students that are eager to participate this year.  These are some of my favorite sessions to shoot ;)   The last few years of High School are such great times in a student’s life!  I really love working with them, and helping them capture their interests, hobbies, and personal style – agh!  I honestly can not wait to dive into this next month!   If you read my blog – you’ve heard me chat about this before.  Too many school in this area require students to sit for the cookie-cutter, black drape, shirt and tie boring pictures.  Some even will not list them alphabetically or at all if they submit a photo from an outside studio….WHY?   My opinion …convenience – it would be very easy for a yearbook staff to upload a disc from one studio – already alphabetized etc.  My favorite response….. “Let your Yearbook picture be your Yearbook picture – Let your Senior Portraits be YOU!” If the schools are going to be rigid, so be it.  There’s no reason you need to purchase anything from them, or give that image out to friends/family!  Play the game, sit for 5 minutes, pick a yearbook photo, and book a Unique Session with me to celebrate this great time in your life or your child’s life!  Enough said!  LOL
The Rep. Program is a wonderful opportunity for students as well as parents.
Without boring you with too many details - here’s a quick outline of what it entails….
What do Rep’s get?
*complimentary 1.5-2 hr. portrait session – multiple clothing changes & locations
*unique Video using all session proofs – perfect for posting on the web!
*50 Rep. Cards
*Brag Book
*$50 referral credit per student you send my way – use credits towards your own portrait collection or CASH
What do Rep’s have to do?
*Give me 1.5-2 hrs. of their time to shoot their session

*Distribute 50 Rep. Cards to friends/family

*use 1 of their proofs as buddy icon on facebook for 1 month
*talk about your pics and experience!
….that’s really it!!!!  I spoke with one parent last week – and at one point she said…”This sounds great…I keep waiting to hear what the catch is, but there doesn’t seem to be one!?”
NO CATCH!  :)   Her daughter is a 2010 Rep!
I value working with these teens – and appreciate them marketing me to their friends and family – it’s a great partnership!
There are 2 slots still available for this year – and 1 may be filled in the next few days.  If you are interested, or know someone who may be – send them my way!
I’ll be updating regularly with photos from the sessions  -  so be sure to check back!  To get you started – take a look at this video for one of the Rep’s this year!

Get Your Game Face On

No surprise that I love photographing HS Juniors/Seniors – especially when they want to incorporate their hobbies or sport interests! She’s been playing lax for a long time – and from what I hear…. :) is quite good! It’s always impressive to me to see students in the many “looks” of them. Granted her hair isn’t pulled up, and she’ wearing makeup in her Lax shots – but I have a soft spot for athlete’s!!! dm3-copy

I personally started playing sports at the age of 7. Softball was the thing until I got into Junior High. I ended up sticking with Softball and quickly feel in love with Field Hockey. Although I found Softball easier – that’s not where my passion was. I played Field Hockey through 3 years of College. I always found myself cracking up when people would say… “You don’t look like a Field Hockey chick….” and honestly I think I looked quite different on the field than I did off! Game Face on – watch out!dm2-copy

It was a bit chilly this day – so you can really appreciate her willingness to fully suit up and endure the cold to get the shots we wanted!!! If you can’t quite figure it out, the photo with her eye, is through the netting of her stick. She loved it, as well as her mom when I showed it to them in camera. I was thrilled that the edginess was appreciated. By incorporated sports, or other hobbies/interests – students really walk away with a great collection of images that really celebrate who they are in their last year of High School.dm1-copy

Division One Lax…Here I Come — Albany, NY High School Senior Photographer

I often talk about incoporated student’s interests and hobbies into their Senior Portraits… thought I’d share these examples!  As I mentioned in my last post, she’s off to play D-1 Lax in the Fall!  You just don’t get to that level without a lot of hard work and dedication… another congrat’s to you A !amanda8-sepia-copy

The Eyes are the Path to the Soul ~ Albany, NY High School Senior Photographer

amanda5-copy1

amanda4-copy1That’s the first thought that came to my mind when I took at look at her pictures on my montior…something very powerful and determined in her eyes.  Our session was one of the very, windy nights — and we did get that “wind in your hair”  look!!    She was so much fun, and I loved hearing about her college plan for next year!  You’re looking at a D-1 Lax Goalie!!!!

Like many High School Seniors in the Albany, NY area – she needed to have the formal black drape and gray background for the yearbook.  Took a bit of manuvering, but think we came up with something that worked!  I guess I can kind of understand the simple look of everyone in the same thing…but when I think of what a Senior’s last year of High School is —- uniformed totally goes against the grain for me!

yearbook1-copy

That’s such a pivital time for teens – you’re coming into your own – developing your confidence in who you are, what your style is etc.  I truely believe that is something that should be embraced and celebrated!

So, for all you HS Seniors out there – or families of one :)   I strongly urge you to at least consider having custom photos taken.  And if your yearbook committee is that “rigid”  then I revert back to my favorite saying…

“LET YOUR YEARBOOK PICTURE BE A YEARBOOK PICTURE – LET YOUR SENIOR PORTRAITS BE YOU…”

There’s no reason why parents have to hang such a commercial shot up, and no reason these teens need to share those with their friends.  Give me a call — I’d love to shoot your portraits, and I can guarantee you’ll feel more like yourself, love your photos, and be able to look back in 20 years and remember who you were during this time of your life!

Fall and Holiday Portrait Sessions: Albany, NY Photographer

maddie16webcontestThis has got to be one of my favorite times of the year to schedule sessions!  Maybe it’s the new color of the leaves now that the flowers are fading, but I love it!  I also have many clients that I’ve worked with year, after year  — and this is often a time that we get to reconnect as they prepare for their holiday seasons.

Most people do schedule early, but I always like to send a reminder that if you are planning on a session – DO NOT WAIT TO CALL AND BOOK!  Right now October is completely filled – and I only have a handful of availability in November.  Although most clients are looking for photos for gifts around the Christmas Season – I need them to be shot by the end of November.  Otherwise, there just isn’t enough time to get them back in your hands.

Again, being outdoors this time of the year is amazing for portraits.  The sun goes down earlier, making the lighting perfect at an earlier time.  And between the warm tones of a setting sun, and the changing leaves —- it’s just breathtaking!!

Clients are booking sessions in a variety of locations in and around Albany, NY.  Most think of fields, and trees or parks – which are so lovely!  But don’t bypass the urban feel of the cities!  The architecture mixed with autumn foliage — perfect formula for great portraits!!

Sessions begin this week – and I’ll be sure to post as much as I can!  Again, get intouch if you want a Fall Photo Session!!!

Final Rose Garden Session: Albany, NY Family Photographer

Not a big secret that I LOVE the Rose Garden area in Schen. Central Park!  For those of you not overly familiar with the area, Schenectady is just a bit west of Albany, NY.  It’s hard not to have the brillant colors of the plethera of rose blooms draw you right in!!  And if roses aren’t your thing, there are plenty of other visually appealing areas to shoot in.  This was my first session with this family – who I know quite well!   I taught Elementary Education previously, and had their daughter in my class!   She was much younger then – so it was really great to see how much she’s changed, and what a beautiful young lady she’s become!  The whole family is adorable, and so lighthearted…even the puppy!!!

Enjoy —-

Incredible High School Senior Portrait Session ~ Albany, NY Photographer

Incredible doesn’t really even come close to really describing how this session went!   Mom, Dad and daughter show up at my home, and right away I thought, she is ADORABLE!!!!  Now Mom had already told me that she was very photogenic….but ya know – us parents love our kids, and think we all know we can be a bit biased!  LOL

We started with a backdrop, just to give the option for a non-outdoor look….i don’t even know if  it took 3 seconds for the magic to begin in the beautiful girls eyes.  Natural talent is really all I can say!   She casually looks at the camera, and the smile creeps across her face – apple checkbones round out – - and then the eyes twinkle – staring right into your soul!  I can’t even count how many times I said….”unreal” that day!  LOL   As we got to know one another — the pictures kept getting better and better.  And as I told her….I tried to pull back and take some full body, and further away shots —- within seconds I’d be drawn right back in close….couldn’t help myself…those eyes!!!   I could have shot them all day long!

All women would love to have long, thick lashes — and most of us are able to achieve that look, work with what we have and some good mascara – and we can get close.   Hold your jaw…she had NO MASCARA ON!!!!!   AGH!   Insane blue eyes – dark rim – long black lashes —– ALL NATURAL!!!!

Obviously I had a great time with this family, and was honored to have worked with this beauty!  As I told her parents…she belongs on photo sessions, and in front of a camera — simply beautiful!

Enjoy the images…

Summer Portrait Sessions – Filling Fast! – Albany, NY Photographer

Summer always goes by too quickly doesn’t it? Already I’m watching my calendar fill up with both Photography Sessions and personal family functions! I’ve been trying to find a way to post a calendar showing open dates, but as of now I do not have this capability on my site. So, I just wanted to share that availability for summer sessions is beginning to become more sparse. In the past two weeks, I’ve had many inquires, and a good handfull of bookings. If you’re considering a Portrait Session – please call to discuss the details and find out about availability. If we’ve already chatted :) and you do want to book, I encourage you to do so as soon as possible. Sessions are booked on a first come first serve basis.

I hope you’re all enjoying the summer & scooting around the rain!
~genine

*PS – Watch for “Good Pictue Taking Tips” — plan on posting it soon to help you get some nice shots to remember your 2009 Summer!

Collections, say Hello to Session Proofs… – Albany, NY Family Photographer

Over the last few years, I think I’ve really learned that you can’t be set in stone with anything – in life, or in buisness. I always welcome feedback from clients, and try to tweak things to meet their needs. I’d been playing with the idea of including some prints with my digital collections – but just couldn’t seem to settle on anything that felt like the right compliment. After talking to a few people, and one recent client in particular (thanks A!) I’ve decided to give proof sets a go! Basically with any collection – Mini or Standard – digital or prints I will be including a complimentary set of proof images from the session. It does seem like a perfect way to say thank you, and for families to really remember their session. Clients will be given the choice of selecting a set of 4×6 Proofs – or a disc with websized Proofs for their personal use. Would love to hear your thoughts — feel free to leave a comment!
