Anything but Ordinary – High School Senior Portraits, Albany, NY

It’s getting to be that time of year – when the days to summer vacation count down begins!!

If you’ve read my blog before, or know me… you know that I also have my masters degree in teaching, and did teach for years at Niskayuna Central School district –  one of Albany, NY top schools 🙂

Many of the now Junior students, held a seat in my class way back when, which makes it all the more fun to think of now taking their Senior Pictures!

Like many of the yearbook committees in our area – Niskayuna also likes the students to submit a traditional, black drape or jacket photo for the yearbook…………   well THAT’S JUST NOT ANY FUN!   When you inquire with the yearbook committees they’ll tell you , that bottom line is… It’s easy – they get an alphabetized disc from the studio they hold a contract with – and can upload it right into their program for the yearbook layout.  It often is possible to submit a non-studio shot – – but it doesn’t come without a penalty.  Students who opt for that route generally get listed in random order, at the very end of the class photos.  Crazy if you ask me !  So how do you work around that?  My suggestion to families, is go sit for the 5 minutes in the black drape or jacket – pick your headshot for the yearbook – and leave it at that.  Schedule your own pictures for the portraits you really want, they really want – and celebrate this upcoming senior year with some very cool, unique portraits!

I’ve been preaching for years, that this is such an incredible time for a student – when they really start to figure out who they are – and many are getting ready to leave home for the college experience in the coming year.   My philosophy… capture them – who they are, what they love, their interests, their hobbies, their fashion!

The student in these pictures, is a Junior at Niskayuna – we coordinated with my stylist to get her look just right, and proceeded to bounce around different areas – including Jay Street – in Schenectady, NY to get very different backgrounds and feels for her portraits!  Yes, she did change her clothes – in the convenient pop up changing room I bring with me 🙂  Yes, they make those!!!!
